Markus W. Baloun was born in Vienna and left Austria to study abroad where he graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor in Elementary Education (K-8) and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education with distinction in 2002. In 2015 he also received a Certificate of International School Leadership. For over 12 years he has taught mathematics in New Mexico, the American School of Barcelona, Vienna International School, and the United Nations International School in New York City. Since 2012 Mr. Markus Baloun was actively involved as a school administrator in Austria, Egypt, and Jakarta. During his 6 years of teaching for NYC public schools, he played an instrumental part in achieving the ranking of “Top Public Middle School” for overall performance, including increasing test scores and parent satisfaction. He was also involved in the “Middle School Performance-based Assessment Pilot Program, The Common Core Pilot Team” as a math teacher and School Lead Facilitator. One of his favorite quotes comes from John Dewey: “Education is not an affair of “telling” and being told, but an active and constructive process.
