Grade 4 performance task

Students learned about poetry the first quarter of the school year, starting with reading “Love That Dog” by Sharon Creech. Over the course of the unit students learned about what inspires poets to write, and also how to analyze the poems to determine a theme of poetry. In the last unit, students wrote their own original poems as well as a proof paragraph explaining why they wrote their poem and where you can see evidence of this in their work. Students ended the module with a gallery walk in which they read aloud their original poem and explained to the audience, with the use of visuals and evidence from the poem, why they were inspired to write their original poem.
